| Project Background

When studying English, you often encounter grammar, conversation, and vocabulary. However, the sound expressions that frequently appear in English content, onomatopoeia, are actually difficult to learn systematically. For example, there are various phrases in English for sounds like things colliding, water splashing, metal ringing, animal noises, and even smartphone notifications or sirens, depending on the situation and nuance. Even if you have studied a lot, you usually only come across these expressions in fragments. That is why, for this project, we have prepared a book that treats sounds as an independent topic: "Sounds Like English."

Rather than simply listing English onomatopoeia, this is a learning and content-based book designed to help you understand and use them by categorizing sounds people often encounter by situation and type. It contains a total of14 chapters and 140 sound expressions, and covers a wide range of sounds from daily life, including impact sounds, collision sounds, clicks, metal and glass sounds, liquids, the human body, animals, machines, and friction, as well as notification and environmental sounds.

The funds from this campaign will be used for editing, design, production, printing, inspection, and reward shipping for the book. Your participation not only helps create a book, but also brings a new learning resource to the world that allows people to learn and express English more vividly!

| Project Story

"Sounds Like English" is a book created to help you learn English onomatopoeia more easily and vividly. For example, it organizes sound expressions by type, from familiar ones like "bang," "splash," and "beep" to more nuanced ones like "squelch," "jangle," "pitter-patter," "ka-ching," and "wee-woo."

The chapters are organized as follows.

From impact sounds like โ€œbang, bam, wham, powโ€ in Chapter 1 to everyday sounds like โ€œrumble, fizz, blip, bloop, ka-ching, wee-woo, pitter-patterโ€ in Chapter 14, a total of 140 expressions are covered.

| Three Distinctive Features

1. Sound expressions as a 'system,' not just a 'feeling'

While many English learning books focus on grammar, conversation, and general vocabulary, this bookdeals with onomatopoeia as an independent topic. Rather than randomly collecting sound expressions, it is organized into categories such as collision, liquid, human body, animals, machines, friction, and more. Learners can not only memorize words but also understand, โ€œIn what situations is this sound used?โ€

2. Useful tips for not only English learners but also creators

This book can serve as a practical reference not only for learners who want to learn English more naturally, but also for writers who create content.Webtoons, picture books, translation, video subtitles, storytelling, content planning, sound descriptionโ€”in all these areas, sound expressions are an important element that enhances the vividness of a scene. Therefore, not only English learners but alsotranslation, writing, storytelling, content planning, sound reference can be utilized by creators and educators who need them.

2. Vivid multisensory learning with QR codes

A multisensory learning book where you can directly experience and learn sounds through QR codes.. For onomatopoeia, rather than just knowing the meaning of the word, the process of listening to the sound, checking the word, and naturally recalling the scene where the sound occurs can be experienced together, allowing English learners to remember phrases for a longer time. In addition, for creators, it will serve as a practical reference for designing the atmosphere of a scene and sound effects more concretely.

| Recommended for these people

Recommended for those who want to learn English more vividly and naturally. It is also great for those who want to understand expressions in English picture books, animations, movies, and webtoons more deeply. It is useful for creators who need reference materials for translation, writing, storytelling, and content planning. It will also be a practical resource for solo creators and educators who need references for sound effects, sound descriptions, and character expressions.

| Introducing the maker

Tsunamis (Jihoon Yoo) is a rare solo publisher who has translated over 80 original books into Korean and published more than 70 standalone books, excluding magazines. He plans, writes, translates, designs, and, when necessary, draws and edits the books himself. To make a book, he switches between editor, designer, translator, and author several times a day.

This time, he is listening to the sounds coming from all around the world. If he doesn't answer the phone, he is probably digging into American dramas to find the right onomatopoeia, so please understand. His major published works include 'The Myth of Ancient Egyptian Kingship,' 'The Founding War,' 'UFO/Pentagon/SETI,' 'The Little Prince English Copybook,' 'Talmud_Pirkei Avot,' 'The Secret of English Only I Want to Know,' 'What Is Psychological Warfare?,' 'How Did Interpreters Become Language Masters?,' and many more.

| Why we chose Wadiz

'All the Sounds of the World in English' is not a typical English vocabulary book, but starts from a more distinct sense of purpose. "What if there were a book that systematically covered only English sound expressions?" "What if there were a reference book that not only learners but also translators, writers, and creators could use?" Since it started with these questions, I wanted to first check the reactions of actual readers and supporters.

I believe Wadiz is a place where you can first meet supporters who recognize the value of new projects that are not yet widely known to the public. I hope that through funding, this book can be introduced first to those who need it, and that the support and feedback from backers will help create a high-quality final product.
