Have I always been this good at English?

No.

I was not good at English. Truly.

The joy of being admitted to the International Studies Department at Yonsei University, which I had dreamed of, was short-lived.

Throughout my twenties in college, I struggled with a severe inferiority complex about English.

My friends had all studied abroad at least once, their phones were in English, and even their drunken ramblings were in English... As a native Korean, I couldn't even open my mouth among them.

"Ah, what I thought I was good at was just test English.
That's completely different from speaking English naturally."

My confidence in English hit rock bottom, and I spent every class hunched over, hiding in fear that someone might speak to me in English. Eventually, one day, I made a firm decision to master English before graduation, no matter what. I analyzed and observed every day what was different between native speakers and myself, and gained insights.For the next five to six years, I devoted myself solely to "this."

Thanks to "this," the timid English speaker who sounded like Google Translate

was able to become a translation instructor who teaches translation.

To put it simply, nuance is"the tone or feeling." That's what it is.

What if a foreigner said it like this? You'd probably smirk, right? But it's the same when foreigners look at us.

I have something to say about this.

But here's the thing...

But when it comes to actually studying nuance,

To truly understand nuance, you first need English skills that allow you to freely understand all kinds of English media. But reaching this level takes a long time. As a native Korean, it took me about 10 years.

If you have the skills, that's just the beginning. To properly organize the nuance of a single word, you need dozens or even hundreds of example sentences. Since I was an international studies student, I encountered English every day, but for the average Korean, this is where it gets tough. And only after all this can you finally form a hypothesis like, "So this word has this nuance!" and then verify it. If you're wrong, you repeat the process endlessly!

No worries! Every morning at 9 a.m. (10 a.m. on weekends), we send the day’s study material and a simple quiz via KakaoTalk, and we run an Okabang study group where you can certify your daily study. Sometimes you can even see cute photos of people studying with their cats! Haha.
