Are the teenagers around us truly okay?
In the era of 100-year lifespans, adolescence lasts only six years.
Although it is a short period, its impact on life
is far greater.
During that time, we experience much pain and suffering.
In those moments, we desperately long for a warm word from someone.
But even though we understand those feelings, why can't we reach out?
There are so many people around us who need empathy and comfort.
Especially for teenagers whose emotions are not fully developed, greater attention is needed.
ย
Even at this very moment, there are people around us enduring difficult days alone.
How about reaching out to them first?
Hello. I am the author of <Empty Seat>.
I amBaek Jeong-oh, an ordinary high school student,.
This book is both my first novel and my first essay collection.
I wanted to honestly share the experiences I had during my ten years of school.
I went through a painful adolescence.
It gradually ended as I became a high school student,
but the wounds that had already formed did not heal.
I have always loved reading books and have found comfort and empathy through reading.
This time, it is my turn,
for teenagersto help teenagers receive comfort and empathy.
For teenagers,
Since I was young, I have looked at society and wondered from behind the scenes,
if there was any way I could help teenagers who are struggling through difficult days.
However, until now, I have left it as a vague wish without putting it into action.
While writing this book, I wanted to go beyond simply recording the emotions I have seen and experienced,
and find a way to directly help teenagers living difficult lives.
I wanted to continue in that direction.
Many teenagers are enduring without being able to express their emotions.
Theseemotional difficulties can have a negative impact on daily life.
For teenagers who find it hard to stand up on their own, external help is desperately needed.
This book expresses those feelings on their behalf.
It goes beyond simple empathy,
To help teenagersexpress their emotions and
to ensure thatthose signals can be recognized by people around them is
the goal of this project.
By receiving support through this fundingand donating to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation,
we aim to create aconnection that can lead to direct help, in addition to
empathy and understanding delivered through words.
Through this project, by recording and sharing the emotions of teenagers,
as ateenager myselfCreator as afirst step I am about to take.
This book is not simply a record of personal experiences and emotions,
but an attempt to express the emotions that teenagers have not been able to convey,
and to deliver those feelings to society.Firstattempt it is.
In the future, I will continue to write about and share the emotions of teenagers,
so that these storiesempathy andunderstanding, direct help can lead to activities that
I want to continue.

Book Q&A
Q. What is the story of <Empty Seat> about?
It is a story about the subtle cracks that form in friendships amidst seemingly ordinary days.
Rather than focusing on a single event,it is a piece that talks about emotions that accumulate in daily life.
Q. Aren't school stories common?
You have probably encountered many school stories through dramas, movies, and books.
Although there are many stories about adolescence in the world, most have been dramatized.
In my writing, I have included students' stories without exaggeration.
I hope this honest story of adolescence reaches you.
Q. Who do you recommend this book to?
I recommend this book to parents with adolescent children,
and to students who have shy friends.
Although these adolescents are commonly seen around us,
you may hear stories of adolescents who perhaps received less attention.
Q. What kind of person is the main character 'Yuna'?
Yuna is an ordinary high school student you might find around you.
There is nothing particularly special, but because it is not special,
I was able to represent the story of an ordinary teenager.
Q. How would you briefly introduce this book?
This book is more than just a simple story about teenagers.
Stories that teenagers could not tell or were unable to share, are spoken on their behalf in this book.

A final word

I have neither outstanding abilities nor a unique background.
Because there was nothing special about me,
I was able to write the story of an ordinary high school student.
I hope this book will be the first experience of being understood for someone.
Adolescents grow through genuine interest and care.
With the support of our backers, I will strive to grow diligently.
