The Garoom Mother-of-pearl Travel Collection we are presenting this time includes a passport case, luggage tag, neck strap, and shopping bag, all designed to complete the beginning and end of your journey in a single mood.
The main message of the project is as follows.
At the start of your journey, carry the light of Korea.
A passport is not just a document needed for traveling abroad.
It is the most symbolic item that proves my nationality and marks the beginning of a journey.
If it is a case to hold such a passport, wouldn't it be better if it were a bit more Korean?
And if it features a Korean design, shouldn't the product also be properly made in Korea?
From this idea, the Garoom Mother-of-pearl Passport Case & Name Tag project began.
With the name Garoom, we wanted to convey the meaning of neatly organizing travel accessories and cultivating them in your own mood.
We wanted to make the passport case not just a simple protective cover, but a travel accessory that feels a bit more special from the moment you prepare for your trip to the moment you take it out.
That is why Garoom chose mother-of-pearl instead of a common printing method.
Mother-of-pearl is different from gold or silver foil.
It has a subtle reflective quality that changes with the angle of light, and when combined with Korean patterns, it creates a deeper atmosphere.
However, it is just as demanding.
It does not adhere easily, can come off depending on working conditions, and if the finish quality is low, the mother-of-pearl may peel off during use.
We did not just want to create beautiful products, but travel accessories with mother-of-pearl inlay that are truly functional and well-crafted.
That is why we repeated mother-of-pearl tests and even prepared unedited test videos showing friction with fingernails and coins.
Because we wanted our products to shine not only on screen, but also to retain their brilliance for a long time in real-life use.
Garoom's passport cases and luggage tags feature designs such as dragons, phoenixes, Seoul nightscape, the Korean Peninsula, haetae, scholars, women, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and horse passes.
We applied designs that embody Korean symbols and traditional moods.
In addition, instead of simply using generic patterns, we planned unique traditional pattern inlay designs exclusive to Garoom.
We manage these designs as assets by registering their copyrights with the Korea Copyright Commission.
Garoom products are mainly composed of three types of passport cases.
Clear Case is a type that highlights the original color of the passport while showing the mother-of-pearl design most vividly.
Classic Case is a cover-type case that securely wraps around the passport,
and is designed to accommodate a neck strap connection and internal storage.
Sleeve Case is a large type that allows you to easily store your passport, international driver's license, boarding pass, and more from the side.
Additionally, by adding a luggage tag and neck strap, we made it possible to create a unified Korean travel mood from your passport to your suitcase.
There is a clear reason why Garoom insists on domestic production.
We are well aware of the structure of sending domestic raw materials to overseas factories for production and then importing the finished products back to Korea for sale, as we have made many products ourselves.
However, this product was different.
Since this product holds a passport symbolizing Korea and expresses Korean design, I wanted to use Korean materials and manufacture it in Korea as much as possible.
Therefore, Garoom's clear case, classic case, sleeve case, luggage tag, and neck strap are produced in Korea using Korean raw materials.
However, the mother-of-pearl inlay uses materials imported from Germany, and the packaging box is produced overseas due to production circumstances.
It was not that there was no way to make it more cheaply.
But Garoom did not simply want to make an inexpensive passport cover, but rather a travel collection that embodies Korean design and the quality of domestic production.
Therefore, it may be more expensive than products made in China.
However, we have prepared so that you can be satisfied from the moment you receive it, from the materials, finish, mother-of-pearl expression, to the package composition.
The reason for launching this project on Wadiz is because we do not want to end with simply selling the Garoom travel collection.
We want to gradually build Garoom as a travel accessory brand together with those preparing for travel, those looking for Korean gifts, and those who want to match their passport and luggage in one mood.
Through this project, we want to directly see supporters' reactions to which designs are most loved, which configurations are most satisfying, and what colors and patterns we should prepare in the future.
The Garoom mother-of-pearl passport case & name tag are small items that make your trip more special, but they contain our commitment to Korean design and domestic production.
From the moment you take out your passport to the moment you find your luggage, we hope the light of Korea prepared by Garoom will gently accompany your journey.
